About Dr Rachel Cann
General Practitioner, Aviation Medical Examiner
Dr Rachel Cann graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1993.
She is a fully qualified General Practitioner and a fellow of the RACGP.
Dr. Cann also has a Diploma of Child Health from the Royal College of Physicians of London, a Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis from the Australian College of Medical Hypnosis, qualified to provide focussed psychological strategies.
She has obtained an Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine, and is a DAME (Designated Aviation Medical Examiner) for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), Australia, and for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), USA.
She is also an MRO ( medical review officer), having received qualification from the Australasian Medical Review Officers Association.
Dr. Cann is a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Aerospace Medical Asssociation and the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
Highlights of her career
- include a year of rural medicine in Timboon and Dimboola; a Summer locum stint in Guernsey, Channel Islands; 6 months of paediatrics in Sunderland, North East England; several years of working in general practice in Toorak and then in East Keilor; and now opening Wilks Street Medical Practice and becoming an Aviation Medical Examiner for CASA and the FAA. Obtaining a Diploma of Clinical Hypnosis, has been very beneficial.
Dr. Cann delivers conscientious and thorough general medical care.
She has a special interest in aviation medicine ; preventive health, including helping people to QUIT smoking, to obtain and maintain a healthy body weight, and to manage stress ; and inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic medical conditions. She is qualified to follow up on positive drug and alcohol tests in the workplace as an MRO.
